Kings County Tennis League to Hold Annual Fundraiser July 24

July 9, 2012 05:08 PM
The Kings County Tennis League (KCTL) will be holding its annual fundraiser on July 24 to support its free tennis program for kids in Brooklyn.
The program, which started in the spring of 2010, has expanded this year from its original location at Marcy Houses to three additional public housing sites: Tompkins, Lafayette Gardens and Sumner.
"We are very excited that we were able to expand our program this year and reach more than 100 kids each weekend," said KCTL’s Founder Michael McCasland. "In our program, we see tennis not just as a sport, but as an opportunity to develop self-confidence and social skills that they can use for the rest of their lives."
The fundraiser, which will be held at the Dumbo Loft in Brooklyn, is not the only special event that KCTL runs each year. In August, the organization takes kids in the program to Arthur Ashe Kids Day, providing them with the opportunity to engage with other young tennis enthusiasts. In October, KCTL hosts a Jamboree that features a tournament among neighborhood sites; a certificate and trophy ceremony for all participants; and food, music and games.
